Halifax, Nova Scotia - Halifax Metro Centre, in partnership with IMG, is pleased to announce the addition of Nova Scotia's own, Natalie MacMaster to the "Holiday Festival on Ice" presented by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 7:00 pm.
The annual skating extravaganza features world-class skaters and internationally renowned musicians coming together to create a one-of-a-kind holiday show for all ages.
"I'm so excited to play for figure skaters!" said Natalie MacMaster. "This is a first for me and I always love collaborating with other artists. Of course, it's great to be back in Halifax too."
With a talent that remains both raw and wondrously refined, and backed by a band any top musician would be proud of, Natalie MacMaster continues to stun crowds around the globe with her feverish fiddling and mesmerizing step dancing.
Well-known to international audiences as one of Canada's major talents, Natalie has been an ambassador for traditional East Coast music, and is credited with lifting the style to its contemporary prominence. While acclaimed for taking Celtic music to new heights, each album Natalie releases displays a creativity and range that constantly expands the boundaries of the genre.
"We are very excited about the addition of Natalie to the "Holiday Festival on Ice" line-up," said Scott Ferguson, Executive Vice President, Trade Centre Limited (the provincial Crown Corporation that manages the day-to-day operations of the Halifax Metro Centre). "The show features a top notch group of talented skaters and musicians and I'm sure will be a hit with all members of the family."

MacMaster joins the already stellar cast that includes:
The show will feature:
Kurt Browning - 4 time World Champion, 4 time Canadian Champion, 3 time World Professional Champion
Jeff Buttle - 3 time Canadian Champion, 2006 Olympic Bronze Medalist, 2008 World Champion
Jamie Salé & David Pelletier - 2002 Olympic Gold Medalists, 3 time Canadian Champions, 2001 World Champions
Sasha Cohen - 2006 Olympic Silver Medalist, 2006 US National Champion

With additional performances by: Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon, Jennifer Robinson, Steven Cousins and Edmunston, New Brunswick's very own, Shawn Sawyer.

Also joining MacMaster on the musical stage are two time ECMA award winners, The Cottars. This hot young Celtic band from Cape Breton have been making waves wherever they go, including a "sold out" tour of the Maritimes, a performance at Carnegie Hall, and two tours of Japan!
The theme of this year's show is "A Celtic Christmas" and is a 90 minute production that features two full cast numbers as well as two individual performances by each skater.
In the spirit of the holiday, Halifax Metro Centre has partnered with Feed Nova Scotia and will be collecting food and cash donations at the door to help support the important work of this organization in our community. Additionally, Halifax Metro Centre will be donating a portion of the evening's ticket sales to Feed Nova Scotia.
"Holiday Festival on Ice" is presented by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation. Additional event sponsors include Delta Hotels, The Chronicle Herald and C100 FM.
