Motivational Speaker Captain Trevor Greene
and Juno Award Winning Singer Jully Black

“From Victims to Victors” –
Empowering Families Around the Globe

Music and motivation will uplift attendees at this event in honour of International Day of the Family. Famous for her hit song Queen, Jully Black's soulful opening act sets the tone for Captain Trevor Greene's message of hope and faith in the human spirit. A roster of speakers, including Gemini Award winning film maker Nelofer Pazira, will ignite us all to realize we have more power to help families around the world than we realize. You will leave inspired to stretch further with the knowledge of simple steps we can all take to support families in Afghanistan.

Every once in a while a true hero emerges, someone whose struggle against the odds. shows us the true nature of courage. We know their names, and they are few. Christopher Reeve. Rick Hansen. Terry Fox. Trevor Greene is another name that belongs on that list.

- Vancouver Sun

Captain Trevor Greene is an author, journalist and motivational speaker born in Nova Scotia. He and his fiancée Deb and daughter Grace were featured recently in the CTV documentary, Peace Warrior. The nationally televised documentary told the story of their healing journey after Captain Greene's injury in Afghanistan. They live in their home in Nanaimo BC. Captain Greene's parents Richard and Bess Greene are Nova Scotians. This event is brought to you in great part by Captain Greene's long time friends and Nova Scotia businesses and the military family who support him in his mission to be the voice for those who can not speak for themselves.

Gemini-award winning Afghan-Canadian author, journalist and filmmaker, Nelofer Pazira will present the story of the families of Afghanistan through her latest experimental film “Audition”. Raised in Kabul, her family fled to Pakistan and lived as refugees before migrating to the east coast of Canada. Nelofer was awarded the “Prix d’ interpretation” by the Montreal Film Festival for her role in “Kandahar” the movie. She is an award winning author and President of PEN. A Bed of Red Flowers: In Search of My Afghanistan is her first book. It was awarded The Drainie-Taylor Biography Prize, by Writers Trust of Canada (2006). She’s set up a charity -- “Dyana Afghan Women’s Fund”, in memory of her friend – to provide education for women in Afghanistan.
