Press Release
(Montreal) - It’s 2011, and CHRIS de BURGH is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his hit song 'The Lady In Red', which has become one of the biggest selling love songs of all time, selling in excess of eight million copies around the world. One of the best storytellers in rock returns to tour Eastern Canada, with a stop in Halifax on Friday, May 11 at The Metro Centre Theatre, the first time in 7 years.
‘The Lady In Red’, now undeniably an evergreen classic, achieved No. 1 status in 25 countries, went to No. 2 in America. To this day, it remains one of the most played songs on the planet; it’s been the recipient of six annual ASCAP (Association of Composers and Publishers) Awards, presented to acknowledge the track as one of the Top 20 most played records in the United States in a period of 12 months.
De Burgh’s other classic songs are staples on the radio : “Don’t Pay the Ferryman”, “Spanish Train”, “Patricia the Stripper”, “High on Emotion” and “A Spaceman Came Traveling” speak to a generation of music lovers.
With total album sales now over 50 million, Chris has just finished the European section of his Moonfleet & Other Stories tour, which has seen him and his band play to 150,000 people since April 2011. Speaking of the forthcoming Canadian shows, Chris said, “I’m really looking forward to going back to Canada. It was one of the first countries that really embraced my music, and the atmosphere of playing there is just electrifying. My music goes back a very long way there, and it will be an enormous pleasure to reacquaint myself personally with both Canada - the beautiful, wide open nation - and its wonderful people.”
Writing and recording his 2010 album, ‘Moonfleet & Other Stories’, took Chris on the most ambitious, challenging and evocative journey of his long and successful career. “Music is the soundtrack to our own lives,” he says.
