Info
Halifax- Casino Nova Scotia is thrilled to welcome Canada’s Queen of Country Music, Carroll Baker to the Schooner Showroom stage on Thursday, July 30.
Carroll Baker is one of the most accomplished performers Canada has ever produced and after 40 years in music, Carroll Baker has decided to embark on a cross-country retirement tour, “Thanks for the Memories.”
From October 1970 through August 1982, Carroll Baker was on the country hit charts for a total of 528 weeks. Thirty one consecutive singles reached the charts, including Conway Twitty's “I've Never Been This Far Before”, later known as her signature song.
In 1982 and 1985 Baker received the Canadian Country Music Association Award for Best Female Vocalist and in 1986 for Best-Selling Album. In 1992 she was recognized for her long-term contributions to the growth and development of Canadian country music by being inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
With 12 consecutive #1 records in Canada, and a three-time Juno Award winner for Country Female Vocalist of the Year, she was the first Canadian Country singer to have her own special on The Nashville Network entitled “Carroll Baker's New Country."
Carroll Baker grew up in the small fishing village of Port Medway on the South West Shore of Nova Scotia. In 1965, when she was only 16 she moved to Oakville, Ontario with her family. By 1969 she began singing with a bar band and was soon after approached by a musician to sing at The Hayloft Jamboree near Markham, Ontario. It was after that performance that she was convinced to make a record, which ultimately marked the successful starting point of her career.
