Halifax- Casino Nova Scotia is excited to present The Queen of Comedy meets The Kings of Love Staring Cathy Jones (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) and Blackie and The Rodeo Kings live in the Schooner Showroom. Shows are Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6 at 8pm.
Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, comprised of Tom Wilson, Colin Linden, and Stephen Fearing have been together as BARK for a full decade. Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, are a Canadian folk/rock/alternative country group originating from Hamilton, Ontario. The band originally came together to record a tribute album to Canadian songwriter Willie P. Bennett. That album, High or Hurtin’, was released in 1996. The band’s name was taken from one of Bennett’s songs, “Blackie and the Rodeo King”. In 1999, the band recorded Kings of Love which received a Juno Award for Best Roots & Traditional Album- Group in 2000.
Their latest release, Let’s Frolic (the keenly-anticipated fourth album) is the sound of a band in the music and entertainment business for all the right reasons. The album contains affirming anthems and songs for rockers everywhere; from country ballads to Southern soul and atmospheric epics to gentle blues.
Cathy Jones, Canadian comedienne and writer became a household name in Canadian comedy following 11 years as one of the stars and founding members of the legendary comedy troupe CODCO. In 1992, Jones, comic Rick Mercer and former CODCO co-stars Mary Walsh and Greg Thomey created a new television series, This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Her characters on the show include Miss. Enid, Babe Bennett and Joe Crow. As of 2005, with the departure of Greg Thomey, Jones is the only remaining original cast member of This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Jones is married to BARK member Tom Wilson.
